Ways to Vote at the 2019 Legislative Council Elections

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission provides a number of services to help you have your say in the Montgomery, Nelson and Pembroke Legislative Council elections.








Polling Day

Vote in person from 8am to 6pm Saturday 4 May 2019 at a polling place near you.

The TEC's electronic roll means you can vote at any polling place in Tasmania.

Unable to Vote on Polling Day?

The TEC has a number of services to help you have your say at Tasmanian elections.

If you are unable to vote on polling day, you must vote early. You can vote in person at a pre-poll centre , or apply for a postal vote .

Public and State Service Holidays mean our pre-poll centres are closed on these dates:

Good Friday - 19 April
Easter Monday - 22 April
Easter Tuesday - 23 April
(State Service holiday)

Anzac Day - Thursday 25 April

Need assistance at a polling place?

Mobility impaired or sensory sensitive electors –
Desktop voting screen at lower height.
Car-side voting - on request, the Polling Place Manager can bring ballot material out to your vehicle in the carpark.

Blind and Vision Impaired electors –
A computer-based system enabling you to vote independently.

How -

  1. You attend a pre-poll centre
  2. You declare you are unable to attend a polling place on polling day
  3. You record your vote + place it in the ballot box

When -

Pre-poll voting centres will be open in 5 Tasmanian locations from Monday 15 April until Friday 3 May (not including public holidays). One additional pre-poll centre in Sheffield will be open Thursday 2 May and Friday 3 May. Please check the list of locations below for further details on opening hours.

Interstate pre-poll locations will be open from Tuesday 16 April. Voting services will be available during their normal business hours until their close of business on Friday 3 May. See below for details.





Postal vote

How:

  1. You apply for a postal vote
  2. We check your enrolment + send you a ballot pack
  3. You record your vote + post it back

When:

Apply as soon as possible. Remember postal services can be slow.

Applications close at 6pm Tuesday 30 April for overseas addresses.

Applications close at 6pm Thursday 2 May for interstate and Tasmanian addressess.

Returning your Vote -

You must record your vote before 6pm on polling day, Saturday 4 May

We can receive postal ballot papers until 10am Tuesday 14 May.

Applications are available at any post office in the divisions, any electoral office or online.

Like ordinary and pre-poll voting, postal voting maintains the secrecy of the vote.

This service is not available in 2019 due to increasing cyber security concerns. The TEC apologises for any inconvenience.

Electors stationed in Antarctica will be notified of an alternative voting procedure.
