2025 Tasman Council
councillor by-election
A by-election will be conducted by postal ballot, to fill a vacancy on the Tasman Council following the resignation of Councillor Jim Sharman on 27 November 2024.
A ballot is required as there are no remaining unsuccessful candidates from the 2022 election to contest a recount.
The term of office for the elected councillor will be until the completion of the next ordinary election, which is due to be held in September/October 2026.
Voting is compulsory.

If you wish to stand as a candidate in this by-election, nominations will open at 9 am on Monday 13 January and close at 12 noon on Tuesday 21 January 2025.

Voting in local government elections is compulsory.
The polling period for the Tasman Council by-election is from Tuesday 28 January to 2 pm on Thursday 13 February 2025.
Every Tasman Council elector will be sent a personally addressed postal ballot pack, to be completed and returned before the close of the polling period.

To vote in this local government by-election, you must be correctly enrolled before 6 pm on Thursday 16 January 2025.
If you are correctly enrolled for state and federal elections then you are automatically enrolled to vote in local government elections. If you don’t live in the Tasman municipal area, you may be eligible for inclusion on the General Manager’s roll.

This information must be returned no later than 45 days after the day on which the certificate of election is issued.
