Information for candidates

  Nominations have closed.

If you wish to stand as a candidate in this by-election, nominations open at 9 am on Monday 2 September 2024 and close at 12 noon on Tuesday 10 September 2024.

To complete the nomination process, you need to submit one nomination form and one (optional) candidate statement. These forms are separate and can be completed at any time, it is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that both are lodged by 12 noon, Tuesday 10 September 2024.

The term of office of the elected councillor will be until the completion of the next ordinary election, which is due to be held in September/October 2026.


















Candidate handbook

The handbook contains detailed information about local government elections, including relevant procedures, processes for nominating and submitting candidate statements, and requirements regarding campaigning.

The handbook was produced for the 2022 local government elections, and a special supplement with details about the 2024 King Island Council by-election is also available.

If you would like a hard copy of the handbook, copies are available from the Tasmanian Electoral Commission (TEC) office, 169 Main Road, Moonah, and King Island Council, 10 George St, Currie. You can also free call the TEC on 1800 801 701 and we will post one to you.


Candidate nomination

  Nominations have closed.

Forms must be lodged with the returning officer or the appointed electoral officer at council. You can lodge your form by post, in person, by fax or by email. Lodgement details are provided below.

Candidate statements

Candidates are encouraged to provide a candidate statement and a photograph, which the TEC will include in the postal ballot pack sent to all electors in the King Island Council local government area.

Your statement and photograph can only be provided via the online form below.

Candidate's advertising return

All candidates must declare advertising expenditure by lodging an electoral advertising return no later than 45 days after the day on which the certificate of election is issued.

It is an offence not to complete and lodge a return with the Electoral Commissioner.
